Have you visited Forgotten Spaces in Somerset House yet? It’s a small, and really interesting and well laid out exhibition that has been installed in the underground passages (including the famous Dead House) under the Courtyard. It’s a series of proposals generated by a RIBA design competition earlier in the year. There are some excellent ideas – the winner Alex Scott-Whitby proposes a series of art studios based in City of London Church Spires (he’s working in a studio based in the Tower of St Mary Woolnoth), but there are other projects that cover most of the other areas of London, and some are absolute corkers. Quality of information shown on each project is pretty good.

I particularly liked the proposal to renovate the overground parts of Highgate Station (with the currently sealed up railway tunnel portals). Southwark is well served with a number of green projects. I do hope that some of these proposals are taken forward and built. I’d love to visit the cafe that could be built under the Hungerford and Golden Jubilee Bridges.

It’s definitely worth an hour or so of time if you are passing. Exhibition closes on 29th January 2012.
