Two Footprints of London Guides helped out on the BBC series Great British Railway Journeys, presented by Michael Portillo. The BBC approached Sean Patterson to appear in the programme talking about Charles Booth’s poverty map of Deptford. Michael Portillo chose Deptford as this was the location of London’s first proper passenger railway, but beneath the viaducts people lived in terrible poverty. Social campaigner Charles Booth highlighted this with his famous map. You can find out more for yourself on Sean’s regular Charles Booth walks.

Joanna Moncrieff was also asked by the BBC to help out on the series, after they saw some photographs of a 1920’s Madame Tussaud’s brochure on her blog. The episode of Great British Railway Journeys on 12th January will feature some of the photographs, which Joanna found in a charity shop a few years ago. Joanna has a new walk in the Marylebone area, which starts on 31st January
