Chris Firmin describes the highlights of his Richmond and Twickenham Riverside walk which you can enjoy with him on 22nd and 28th April

Richmond Upon Thames is the only London borough that straddles the River Thames and this walk takes in the riparian delights of both Richmond itself (on the Surrey bank) and Twickenham (on the Middlesex bank). This is where the Thames flows serenely and elegantly between beautiful historic houses and charming gardens “rich habitations that nothing in the world can match” (Daniel Defoe) all under the watch of Richmond Hill with its much painted vistas. Alexander Poe lived here as did Alfred Lord Tennyson, JMW Turner and Horace Walpole. More recently it was the cradle of British rhythm and blues where the Rolling Stones, The Who and others played their earliest gigs and went on to conquer the world of rock and pop music. This riverside walk is a story of poets, artists and musicians as well as royalty and nobility.
