“If it’s late 20th and early 21st century buildings and an undeniably dramatic impact on the London skyline, then my nomination is Norman Foster. What a roll-call of stunningly distinctive and iconic modern architecture. The Millennium Bridge, Gherkin, Great Court British Musem, Wembley Stadium Arch and City Hall, to name only a few of his arresting and varied designs. They combine originality, grace and space without stooping to pastiche, form over functionality or boring conformity. And he’s a really nice bloke from humble origins who manages to be fairly modest and relatively unassuming (very rare attributes for any top architect, especially one showered with building design awards, a knighthood and life peerage)”
