David Charnick

David is a qualified City of London guide who was born in Bethnal Green, East London, in 1964 and has never seen any reason to move out. Though a qualified City guide, he also guides extensively in the East End. He is employed by Tower Hamlets Council as a tutor for three tour guiding courses taught through Idea Store Learning, the local adult education service.

David has a keen interest in literature and is developing a series of guided tours based around site-specific readings. As a medievalist he is also developing a series of tours exploring early London. He has moreover a healthy interest in crime and the law and in philanthropy, the two sides of humanity displayed dramatically in London’s story.

David is the author of two collections of short stories and of The Dark Side of East London, an exploration of crime and wrongdoing in the East End before it became the East End.
