Great Expectations in Greenwich
31 December 2011 Comments Off on Great Expectations in GreenwichIf you enjoyed the latest version of Charles Dickens’s Great Expectations, screened on BBC TV between Christmas and New Year, revisit the scene of the crimes in Greenwich with Footprints of London guide Neil Sinclair.
Tread the London street along which a reluctant Estella is driven to her arranged marriage with the arrogant, disdainful and dastardly Bentley Drummle.
Stand on the steps of the colonnaded building where Drummle and embittered former blacksmith’s assistant and ex gatekeeper Dolge Orlick meet to plot Pip’s downfall.
Visit the Inns of Court chambers where Pip receives his instructions and monthly allowance from enigmatic lawyer and inheritance administrator Jaggers.
All these scenes were shot in the Old Royal Naval College last autumn and feature in the 90-minute blockbuster movie tour On Location in Greenwich hosted by Neil Sinclair on 8th January and 15th January.
