17 November 2014 Comments Off on Robin Shows Anthony Horowitz Some Sherlock Holmes Locations on ITV’s This MorningLast week, Footprints of London Guide Robin (aka Sherlock Walks) was filmed by ITV’s This Morning, discussing Sherlock Holmes locations with Mr Anthony Horowitz, the creator of ITV’s Midsomer Murders and Foyle’s War.
This was a great honour for Robin, a lifelong Sherlock Holmes fan, to be filmed in the recreation of Sherlock Holmes’s study in the Sherlock Holmes pub, Northumberland Avenue near Charing Cross. The mock-up of the famous Baker Street study was originally constructed as an exhibit for the 1951 Festival of Britain and was later installed in the Sherlock Holmes pub as a permanent attraction. Here, as described by Dr John Watson in ‘The Musgrave Ritual’, we find ‘his cigars in the coal-scuttle, his tobacco in the toe-end of a Persian slipper, and his unanswered correspondence fixed by a jack-knife into the centre of the wooden mantlepiece’.
During the interview Robin discussed various iconic Sherlock Holmes locations, such as the Lyceum Theatre.
Where in The Sign of Four, Arthur Conan Doyle’s second Sherlock Holmes novel after A Study in Scarlet, Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson escort Miss Mary Morstan to a mysterious meeting ‘at the third pillar from the left outside the Lyceum Theatre tonight at seven o’clock’.
This strange assignation is merely the prelude to a thirty year old mystery adventure involving the Indian Mutiny, stolen jewels, murderous revenge and a thrilling river chase with pistols and blow-darts!
Robin’s next Sherlock Holmes walk is ‘Sherlock Holmes of London’, taking place on Saturday 22 November, 11.00 at Cannon Street Station. Full details and how to book here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/sherlock-holmes-of-london-tickets-14080181201
