Virtual Tour – A Journey Along The Northumberland Coast
19 November 2024 Comments Off on Virtual Tour – A Journey Along The Northumberland CoastNorthumbria has always been one of England’s most magical counties – for some time a separate Kingdom between England and Scotland. Today Northumbria still has some of England’s most spectacular landscapes – sand dune covered coastline, wild heathland and thick wooded valleys. On this virtual tour, tour guide Rob Smith will take you to some of his favourite parts of Northumbria – including a trip out to Roman Hadrian’s Wall, Lindisfarne Abbey – a holy place of learning on the frontline of Viking raids. Northumbria acted as a frontier with Scotland and was guarded by impressive castles like Warkworth – where Shakespeare set a scene from his plays. Later , the county grew wealthy from coal, exported from small harbours like Blyth, Amble and Seaton Sluice – the money went to build impressive houses like Seaton Delaval, and engineer Lord Armstrong’s ingenious water powered house at Cragside. The tour will take in Gertrude Jekyll’s colourful climate defying garden at Lindisfarne Castle and the tour ends with a chance to stop for a pint in the beautifully decorated pubs of Newcastle.
