Virtual Tour – Brent’s Best Buildings
30 January 2025 Comments Off on Virtual Tour – Brent’s Best BuildingsThis sixty minute virtual tour explores the buildings of London Borough of Brent
Named after the river that flows through it , London Borough of Brent was formed in the local government reorganisation of 1965. While much of the borough grew in the 20th century, the area was once rich farmland containing villages and hamlets like Kingsbury which still retains its 13th century church.
The borough has some excellent examples of the Metroland style houses adored by John Betjeman and the eccentric designs of Buck Lane – a place where truly an Englishman’s home is his castle. There are art deco blocks like Neville’s Court which contained an apartment for Winston Churchill, and rows of railway workers cottages built for the Metropolitan Railway.
In World War Two the Post Office Research Station at Dollis Hill played a vital part in the effort to crack codes. Transport delights include Charles Holden’s Sudbury Town Station. Wembley Arena is a survivor of the British Empire Exhibition
More recent buildings include the rebuilt Wembley Stadium, the beautiful Shri Swaminarayan Mandir and Brent’s New Civic Centre.
Whatever your taste in buildings there is bound to be something in Brent to enjoy.
