Virtual Tour – Churches, Castles and Country Towns – a Lincolnshire Journey
15 April 2025 Comments Off on Virtual Tour – Churches, Castles and Country Towns – a Lincolnshire JourneyTake a break from London for a virtual staycation in historic Lincolnshire. This tour around one of England’s largest counties will be narrated by Lincolnshire born guide Rob Smith.
On the tour Rob will show you the remains or Roman Lincoln, the lofty heights of its famous Cathedral and the bloody history of Lincoln Castle. We will then head to the elegant delights of Elizabethan Doddington Hall, visit the Saxon church at Stowe and the Old Hall and Georgian Church at Gainsborough.
Heading out into the rolling hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds, we’ll talk about why this is known as Bomber County, before visiting the pretty towns of Louth and Horncastle and the ruins of Bolingbroke Castle. Hear the story of the Lincolnshire Uprising in Tudor times before we head South into the flat lands of the Fens. Here we will call in at Boston to see the prison the Pilgrim Fathers were held in. Then on to Spalding, where the church has a connection to London.
We finish of with a visit to Sir Isaac Newton’s home near Grantham, a visit to the gardens at Belvoir Castle and finally the country town of Stamford which sits on the road back to London.
A whole week of church visits and market places condensed into fifty minutes of pictures and words with a chance to ask Rob questions afterwards, and you’ll get an itinerary if you want to do the journey yourself.
