It was hard work keeping Victorian London supplied with food. This Virtual Tour looks at the factories where famous food brands were made.

Nineteenth century London was the largest city in the world – with a big appetite! Food needed to be produced on an industrial scale and factories to make food sprang up all over the capital. A few of these remain, like the Lyle’s Golden Syrup factory in Silvertown or McVities biscuit factory in Harlesden. Others, like Gordon’s gin distillery or Sarsons vinegar works have been converted to other uses.

This 50 minute virtual tour on Zoom tells the story of these famous brands, shows you where the factories are and what you can see today, and what it was like to work in them.

This is a live virtual tour hosted via Zoom video conferencing where your guide will give an illustrated presentation of the tour route with an accompanying talk. There will be opportunities for questions and interaction both during and after the virtual tour.
