I f you were starting from scratch, you would not design the London Underground’s Northern Line the way it is. The reason it is so complex is that it started off life as two separate railways dating from 1890 and 1907 which were joined together in the 1920s and then extended. Join Stephen to hear the fascinating story of the Northern Line. We will go from the oldest section of the deep level tube which was also the first Underground electric railway in the world. And we finish on the Battersea extension which was opened in 2021. Along the way, we will learn about the various rebuildings and extensions in the 1920s and the plans for a huge expansion in the 1930s which was only partially realised. And we can say belated happy 100th birthday to the southern end of the line which opened in September 1926.
