This walk takes in the open space of Wormwood Scrubs, then gives a view of the work on the new HS2 station at Old Oak Common

Wormwood Scrubs is probably best known as one of London’s most infamous prisons. However the open space that gives its name to the prison has been rewilded in recent years and has some nice tree lined paths and good views of London.

The area surrounding the Scrubs is dominated by railway routes, and on the walk Rob will talk about the origins of many of them. The second part of the walk goes along the Grand Union Canal you can see over a wall to where the new Old Oak Common station is under construction. This is one of the biggest projects on the HS2 scheme and will be one of the largest stations in London when complete.

After passing some more of what is now the Mildmay line the walk returns to Wormwood scrubs and the interesting post world war two Old Oak Estate before finishing back at East Acton

The walk is 3.3 miles. East Acton Station has some very steep steps and there are some more steps on the walk. How much you can see of the work on the HS2 project will depend on your height.
