Walking Tour – Chelsea – Family, Fame and Infamy
5 March 2026 Comments Off on Walking Tour – Chelsea – Family, Fame and InfamyAs suggested by the title, this is a very special walk for me – not just because it’s an area I came to regularly as a child to visit my grandparents, but also, I have worked at the Royal Brompton Hospital since 2018. In fact, the Brompton is the final stop, with every stop within 150 yards of the hospital.
Despite the compact geographical footprint, the walk is packed with a more varied social history than you might expect in affluent Chelsea. Amongst many interesting characters, you will meet a George Cross winning chimney sweep, world famous novelists & musicians, and find out why Trevor’s family are so grateful to William Sutton.
The walk will start at South Kensington Station, meeting next to Gilding The Lily Flower Stall, and should take 1 3/4 hours – though please allow for up to 2 hours. The walk will end on Fulham Road near The Royal Brompton Hospital – a 5 to 10 minute walk from South Kensington Station.
Please aim to be at the starting point 15 minutes before the start of the walk.
