Telling the stories of the men and women who served at RAF Kenley – the best preserved of London’s Battle of Britain airfields

RAF Kenley in London Borough of Croydon was on the front line of the defence of London during the Battle of Britain. Still in use by the RAF today, it is the most intact of London’s Battle of Britain airfields. This walk skirts around the edge of the airfield, with a clear view of the runways which Spitfire and Hurricane aircraft took off from in World War Two, and some of the blast pens where ground crew worked to keep the aircraft in the air.

Rob will tell the story of The Battle of Britain through the walk, with a focus on the heroes of Kenley who defended London during its darkest days.

The walk is about 3.1 miles and ends at the Fox pub on Coulsdon Common, from where you can get a bus back to East Croydon station.

The start of the walk includes a steep climb and goes through fields where there may be cattle, so is not suitable to bring dogs.
