Discover the charming backstreets of Brompton/Knightsbridge conservation areas and the land developed after the Great Exhibition of 1851

Discover the fascinating history of the development of the Brompton/Knightsbridge area. Known previously for its health benefits and gardens outside of London, it slowly developed in the 19th century to form a charming pocket of land between Brompton Road and Hyde Park. We will see some of the charming backstreets, squares and mews, churches including Brompton Oratory and vistas before heading to the site of the 1851 Great Exhibition. We will walk through ‘Albertopolis’ viewing the Albert Memorial and Monument to the Great Exhibition, Albert Hall, and learn about the origins of the major museums of South Kensington.
