Walking Tour – Rose Macaulay’s Wilderness
18 January 2025 Comments Off on Walking Tour – Rose Macaulay’s WildernessRose Macaulay’s ‘The World My Wilderness’ conjures up the devastation of the post-war City.
Rose Macaulay’s penulitimate novel The World My Wilderness (1950) is an evocative account of the devestation of the CIty during the Blitz of World War Two.
Semi-feral 17 year-old Barbary and her step-brother Raoul create a world for themselves in the ruined wilderness around St Paul’s. On this walk we’ll conjure up images of the post-war landscape with readings from the novel and look at how it has been developed since.
The walk will last about two hours starting by St Paul’s and finishing at Moorgate.
Please check travel arrangements on the day at Transport for London’s Journey Planner site.
