Walking Tour – Secrets of Wood Street (Walthamstow)
20 July 2026 Comments Off on Walking Tour – Secrets of Wood Street (Walthamstow)Wood Street was known for its early film studios but there is so much more to discover in this area of Walthamstow.
On this circular walk which traverses some of the area known at one time as ‘On the Forest’ we will seek out evidence of lost pubs, the lost film studios and several lost mansions – one former mansion still stands. We will walk down a path which dates back several centuries, visit a churchyard with some fascinating stories to tell and find a hidden mural and a hidden garden.
Some of this walk covers uneven ground and forest paths so please wear appropriate shoes.
Meeting place
The walk starts outside Wood Street Overground Station (Weaver Line). This is one stop from Walthamstow Central in the direction of Chingford.
It is adviseable not to drive to this walk as parking is very limited for non-residents. You can check days and hours of operation of the various CPZs at this website https://www.walthamforest.gov.uk/sites/default/files/2026-03/2026_03_05_CPZ_Overview_Map-A1%20Portrait_Whole%20Borough%20Map.pdf
