Walking Tour – The Liberty of Romford
18 September 2024 Comments Off on Walking Tour – The Liberty of RomfordThe story of the naming of the Liberty Line is a fascinating mixture of legend and fact that ties in the Wilton Diptych , a shopping centre, a Victorian Church and the Imperial State Crown. On this two hour walk around Romford Rob will tell the story of the Royal Liberty that established Romford as a market town, still with one of London’s most famous markets.
The walk will look at how Romford was transformed from an Essex market town to an important urban centre in the London Borough of Havering, complete with its own Scandanavian inspired Town Hall. The walk will also visit Raphael Park and walk past the River Rom that gives Romford its name.
The walk is 1.7 miles long and starts and finishes at Romford Station (on the Liberty Line and Elizabeth Line)
