Footprints of London Guide Trevor Mayhew

Trevor is a Westminster Guide, in the process of building a catalogue of walks around many areas of central London that he knows well – either through close family history, or from working in London for more than 35 years throughout a career in the NHS.
He loves London, he loves walking around London, he loves learning about London, and now, as a Qualified Guide, he has the skills and the experience to share that knowledge with you in an interesting, informative and enjoyable way.
London is Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey , and they are all fantastic, highly recommended, and all will be part of his future tours, but there are many more layers to London. It is a city with so much history, so many stories, so much of interest and intrigue – for a Tour Guide it is an absolute treasure trove, and he would like to share his knowledge of this incredible city with you.

Trevor’s Walks include:
• Chelsea – Family, Fame and Infamy:
As the title suggests a very special for Trevor, not just because it’s an area he came to regularly as a child to visit his grandparents, but he has also worked at the Royal Brompton Hospital since 2018. The Brompton is the final stop, and every stop is within 200 yards of the hospital.
Despite the compact geographical footprint, Trevor will demonstrate this is an area with a much more diverse social history than you might expect for affluent Chelsea, as well as introducing you to world famous novelists and musicians.

• Borough and Bankside – From Bard to Brothels:
An area with an incredible, and at times shocking, history shaped by its’ proximity to both The City of London and London Bridge – which, for over 1700 years, was London’s only bridge across the Thames. Borough is as old as Londinium, the Roman settlement that evolved into the City of London, and from there into London we know it today. Bankside had its’ own jurisdiction for over 750 years, from which the area nurtured William Shakespeare & the modern-day theatre in London, but was also became London’s centre for brothels, taverns, & bear baiting.
Selected feedback from clients:
• “Honestly, one of the best tours I have ever done” PW
• “What an amazing & informative tour with Bankside & Borough steeped in history – so many facts and dates perfectly presented by our first class tour guide” MS
• “Knowledgeable, great stories, and all delivered with such charm” CM
