Vivienne Lloyd – Footprints of London
![]()
I am an official City of London Guide and local, having worked in the City and lived in Greenwich for 20 years. I became inspired to show others around this incredible city a few years ago and it’s now my favourite thing!
Despite its 2,000 years of history the City of London is no fossilised Old Town, but a living, breathing hive of activity; one of the world’s top two global financial centres coexisting alongside the surviving evidence of centuries of turmoil which reshaped both the nation and the globe. I love the stories, the amazing architecture from multiple centuries, markets, pubs, alleyways, tiny green spaces, and the ancient hidden gems – which require a bit more effort to discover.
Meanwhile across the river a few miles east we have the green and historic maritime district of Greenwich, once a humble river stop-off on the way to London, which then transformed over the centuries into a royal residence and hunting ground, a naval base and later a cradle of scientific discovery.
Come on my tours to find out more!
My walks include:
• Knights Tales of Medieval London – a City of London walk taking in tales of jousts, knaves, chivalric romance and legends and the remains of the crusaders’ headquarters.
• Pubs, alleys and marketplaces – trace centuries of London history in its pubs, alleys and marketplaces as we go on a tour to learn about the rarest old alehouses and beautiful historic markets, weaving our way through tiny medieval streets as we go.
• Greenwich – a walk taking in the highlights of this riverside home of Kings, Queens, martyrs and mariners. Once a key naval port, the village also boasts the old Prime Meridian line, Greenwich Meantime, thanks to the 17th century Royal Observatory in Greenwich Park.
