Of course <a href=\"http:\/\/www.londoneye.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">the London Eye<\/a>\u00a0is fantastic, but it is hugely popular and not the cheapest of ways to see the city. You can walk up to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Primrose_Hill\" target=\"_blank\">Primrose Hill<\/a> or <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Hampstead Heath\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hampstead_Heath\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Hampstead Heath<\/a> but again they can get busy. So where else can you go for an overview of the city?<\/p>\n<p>In recent years London\u2019s tall buildings have kept the view to themselves. Public viewing areas at the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Shell Centre\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shell_Centre\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Shell Centre<\/a> and <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Canary Wharf\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Canary_Wharf\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Canary Wharf<\/a> didn\u2019t last long, while the restaurant on top of <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"30 St Mary Axe\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/30_St_Mary_Axe\" rel=\"wikipedia\">the Gherkin<\/a> is strictly for invited guests. That\u2019s about to change with new bars on top of <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Heron Tower\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Heron_Tower\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Heron Tower<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shard_London_Bridge\" target=\"_blank\">the Shard<\/a> opening soon, and there&#8217;s even a plan to reopen the restaurant on the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"BT Tower\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BT_Tower\" rel=\"wikipedia\">BT Tower<\/a>. If you cant wait that long, <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Nido Spitalfields\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nido_Spitalfields\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Nido Spitalfields<\/a> has just opened a pop up bar called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minthotel.com\/skylounge\" target=\"_blank\">Sky Lounge<\/a>\u00a0on its 32<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0floor. For the price of a drink you can enjoy stunning views, just five minutes walk from Liverpool St.<\/p>\n<p>Not prepared to pay at all? Why not visit a little park called <a href=\"http:\/\/g.co\/maps\/dgcx\" target=\"_blank\">Greenwich Point<\/a>\u00a0. You can see across the city to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wembley_Stadium\" target=\"_blank\">Wembley Stadium<\/a>, and you&#8217;ll likely have room to setup a picnic. Over in East London The <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Royal Victoria Dock Bridge\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Royal_Victoria_Dock_Bridge\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Royal Victoria Dock Bridge<\/a> gives superb views across Docklands, while if your feeling more adventurous why not climb\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/g.co\/maps\/uqtxc\" target=\"_blank\">Beckton Alps<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 a spoil heap created when the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Beckton Gas Works\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Beckton_Gas_Works\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Beckton Gas Works<\/a> were built, which gives you a great view of the Olympics site.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately London is a city of intimate surprises rather than grand vistas. However once in a while its nice to get an overview and realise just how much of it there is to explore.
