It also became the dumping ground for many artefacts until its disappearance, covered over, as early as the 1500\u2019s, mainly due the stink and the need for land reclamation and removal of \u2018smelly\u2019 industries, to the East of London. The depth of the exploration has confirmed its course, depth and width.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The banks of the Walbrook were weak and the Romans strengthened them by using overlapping planks called revetments. The planks themselves are interesting as they were often remains of ships and \u2018clinker\u2019 type boats, this has led to the mistaken impression that larger vessels could reach almost up to where Queen Victoria is today, when in fact it was only recycling of timbers<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The small exhibition at the Museum of London is dedicated the tools and implements of manufacture found during various archaeological digs. The <a href=\"http:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/walbrook2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-kopa-image-size-1 wp-image-5882\" src=\"http:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/walbrook2-251x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"251\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/walbrook2.jpg 251w, https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/walbrook2.jpg 252w, https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/walbrook2.jpg 502w, https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/walbrook2.jpg 753w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 251px) 100vw, 251px\" \/><\/a>labels mention the Walbrook, \u2018middle\u2019 and \u2018lower\u2019 numerous times, they also give an indication of the many industries in the ancient city. Also, many of the items may have come from further afield, lost, dumped in, or swept down the Walbrook.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">There is much more to come over the next few years as the finds are sifted through, preserved and then presented to us by the Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA). We already know the wax tablets, of which there are many. Endless pairs of shoes, the leather preserved in the waterlogged layers. Gold coins, amulets, pagan tokens and much more, as well as the site of the Temple of Mithras which will be presented to us once again in the purpose-built museum on the site.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The walk introduces you to the \u2018middle\u2019 and \u2018lower\u2019 course of the Walbrook, but also enlightens you to its source, the course and its
