Full details and booking link can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/e\/capital-ring-section-9-greenford-to-south-kenton-tickets-58460303341\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">This section is the hilliest part of the Capital Ring but the climbs are well worth it for the views. Here Jen describes some of the &#8216;highlights&#8217;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Horsenden-Hill.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6801 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Horsenden-Hill.jpg\" alt=\"Horsenden Hill\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Horsenden-Hill.jpg 600w, https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Horsenden-Hill.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">As we walk along the Grand Union Canal, this time the Paddington Branch, Horsenden Hill can be seen rising to our left. We cross the canal and climb through meadows to its summit. We are now at the highest point of the London Borough of Ealing (276ft \/ 84m above sea level) with views over six counties and ten London boroughs. Useful information boards help us to identify various landmarks both near and far.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Harrow-streets.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-6800\" src=\"http:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Harrow-streets-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Harrow streets\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Harrow-streets.jpg 150w, https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Harrow-streets.jpg 80w, https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Harrow-streets.jpg 118w, https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Harrow-streets.jpg 239w, https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Harrow-streets.jpg 45w, https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Harrow-streets.jpg 300w, https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Harrow-streets.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>After taking in our fill of the view we descend the hill through ancient woodland and make our way via Sudbury Hill to Harrow, famous for its school.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">At the centre of the village we reach one of the highest points of the Ring, 350ft \/ 105m above sea level. Instead we get tantalising glimpses of the city down steep, narrow side-streets\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">and through the school buildings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">We then descend steep Football Lane, past Harrow School&#8217;s Music School, bearing the coat of arms of John Lyon who founded the school in the sixteenth century, to reach the school&#8217;s playing fields.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Harrow-School-from-playing-fields.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-6799\" src=\"http:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Harrow-School-from-playing-fields-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Harrow School from playing fields\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Harrow-School-from-playing-fields.jpg 150w, https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Harrow-School-from-playing-fields.jpg 80w, https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Harrow-School-from-playing-fields.jpg 118w, https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Harrow-School-from-playing-fields.jpg 239w, https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Harrow-School-from-playing-fields.jpg 45w, https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Harrow-School-from-playing-fields.jpg 300w, https:\/\/footprintsoflondon.com\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Harrow-School-from-playing-fields.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>From here we can look back for a great view of the school on the hill and appreciate the commanding position it occupies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">After leaving the playing fields we follow the narrow, winding Ducker Path, which takes its name from the school&#8217;s former outdoor swimming pool where Winston Churchill swam when he was a pupil, to Northwick Park playing fields which we cross to bring us to South Kenton Station and the end of the walk.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">As well as admiring the fabulous views, we&#8217;ll learn about the history of the places we visit along the way so why not come and get high with us?<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jen takes up the baton again for the next of Footprints of London&#8217;s series of walks around the Capital Ring with Section 9 running from Greenford to South Kenton on Sunday 2nd June.
