South of the River, \u00a0Sue\u2019s Bermondsey walk on 20th July<\/a> celebrates the life and achievements of \u00a0Ada Salter<\/em><\/strong>; socialist, pacifist, environmentalist, youth-worker and Quaker. \u00a0Ada was the first female Mayor in London and the first Labour woman mayor in the British Isles. Ada loved singing and plants; with her husband, \u00a0local doctor\u00a0and MP Dr Alfred Salter, she made a significant impact on health, housing, employment and labour relations. \u00a0The Garden Suburb\u00a0she created and the tree planting she championed can still be seen today.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
